SUPPORT STORIES FOR CHOICE
When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade,
TMI Project took action with Stories for Choice!
This is an all-hands-on-deck moment. Help raise $20,000 to support a program that centers deeply personal stories about true reproductive justice to turn the tide and address one of the most critical issues at this moment in history.
True to TMI Project’s mission, let’s begin with a story:
Hearing everyone’s stories made me realize that the issue of healthcare is so much larger than I knew. I have a renewed interest in fighting for healthcare and reproductive justice.
- Victoria Leigh, Stories for Choice storyteller
With your support, TMI Project will:
Your gift powers our storytellers, who do more than entertain. They reclaim the power of the untold story. They speak the unspeakable to replace shame and isolation with connection, freedom, and power – for themselves and those who listen.
Nothing illustrates the power of your support better than our stortellers.
YOUR SUPPORT WILL EMPOWER:
Storytellers inciting LOCAL CHANGE, like Kat, a member of Kingston High School’s Period Power! Club who will use their true story to end period poverty; speaking truth to power to ensure high-quality, environmentally friendly products are available to all students.
For years I was scared to speak up for myself. I hated the sound of my own voice. Through Period Power! Club, I heard all of these stories from people who are struggling. I saw how big of an issue it is and I found my voice. Now, I use it to speak up for myself and others. I say what needs to be said.
- Kat, Period Power! club member
Did you know that 76% of students in the U.S. are taught more about the biology of a frog than they are about bodies that menstruate? 1
Storytellers with a NATIONAL REACH like Katie who is using her true story to train healthcare providers nationwide;
Please support Stories for Choice so the voices of patients, often marginalized and underrepresented, can be heard by the providers of the future as well as the present. Their stories are important and need to be heard with an open heart and a mindset open to change, with these stories we can together improve healthcare for all.
- Katie Willingham, Stories for Choice storyteller
Did you know that one in three transgender people, and 48% of transgender men, have delayed or avoided preventive health care such as pelvic exams or STI screening out of fear of discrimination or disrespect?2
and Tahyira, who is using her true story to provide supportive programming to those working on the front lines.
I’ve told my story at many events and performing for all of Wisconsin’s Planned Parenthood employees was exceptional. Just weeks earlier they successfully reinstated abortions services for the first time since Roe v. Wade was overturned. Activism is hard work and the folks on the ground need to feel supported. I could feel the love in that room.
- Tahyira Cordner-Arias, Stories for Choice storyteller
Did you know that the states that have the strongest laws against safe and legal abortion are also the states in which women suffer from lower levels of education and higher levels of poverty, as well as from a lower ratio of female-to-male earnings. They also have a lower percentage of women in the legislature and fewer mandates requiring insurance providers to cover minimum hospital stays after childbirth.3
Storytellers with an INTERNATIONAL REACH like Nakinti who is bringing this work back to her community in Cameroon
After I told my abortion story, I felt lighter than I ever had before. I realized the burden was too heavy for me to carry alone. For this reason, I thank TMI Project for pushing me to freedom; for giving me the voice to inspire other women. Before I left the US, I bought a few microphones and transmitters to replicate the program. Since I returned to Cameroon, I have been an ambassador for Stories for Choice and reproductive justice. I’ve been organizing women centered story telling sessions. Everyone is in awe and they want more.
- Nakinti Nofuru, Stories for Choice Storyteller
Did you know that, according to the World Health Organization, unsafe abortions are the third leading cause of maternal deaths worldwide, with the highest rates (36 per 1,000 women) - in Eastern and Middle Africa?4
When Roe v. Wade was overturned on June 24, 2022, the experience of attempting to access reproductive healthcare became even more fraught in the United States. Fourteen states now ban all abortion services. An additional two states ban abortion after six weeks. People who miscarry are not receiving care because their symptoms mimic that of a medication-induced abortion and they fear repercussions, which may include everything from verbal harassment to losing their jobs to being found legally guilty of a second-degree felony. Stories for Choice has the potential to offer healing to individuals and communities that have been devastated by barriers to reproductive healthcare. Storytelling is a vehicle for human connection that can ignite hope during the darkest times. Paired with educational and activism tools, personal stories can motivate a political and social movement towards the expansion of reproductive freedom that endures for decades to come.
No other group of people has ever accepted me the way TMI Project has. You all made me feel like it was okay to be the person I am; made me believe that my voice actually matters, and my feelings have real value. Thank you for listening to my story, helping me tell it, and making me feel worthwhile. I feel like you are all family now.
