“I had a wonderful time in the comedy storytelling workshop. We laughed, we cried, we laughed again. The TMI Project workshop leaders helped me transform something difficult into something truly funny. Laughing with the other participants and an audience was healing - and really fun!”
– Comedy Free Write Participant, Stephanie Ellis
DATE: Monday evenings February 6, 2023 - April 17, 2023
(Workshops are drop-ins, no need to commit to every session, just come when you can)
TIME: 7-9 PM, EST
Workshop Location: The Greenhouse (Kingston, NY) and online via Zoom
In-person attendance (as long as COVID cooperates) is limited to 10 people on a first-come-first-served basis. Online attendance is unlimited.
Cost: Free, with a suggested donation of $20/session.
For the first time since 2015, Tenuto and Novak will reunite to co-facilitate in the space that brought them together in the first place: laughter. Every expertly-crafted workshop will offer a different comedic-writing tactic, exercises, follow-up resources, and examples to inspire your work. Each session will feature a guest storyteller. And, perhaps most importantly, The TMI Project Free Write: Comedy Edition offers an opportunity to read your writing, listen to others, develop your material in community, and laugh along the way. After everything we’ve endured, we believe we could all use a little more of that this winter!
Rest assured: this is a zero-pressure environment and not a stand-up workshop. We do not expect you to write hysterically witty freewrites. Rather, we expect to share shitty first drafts that can be workshopped into humorous stories. Just bring a willingness to tell the truth and to look at it through a comic lens. No experience necessary.
Commitment to the entire series is not required, though attendance at multiple workshops is encouraged to get the most out of it.
"Participating in a TMI Project comedy workshop truly showed me that Tragedy plus Time can equal Comedy, and that some of my experiences which have been the toughest to live through are also the ones that, when I could find the humorous parts, helped me begin healing. I'm thankful to TMI Project for offering a safe space and a safe community, in which to laugh at ALL our humanity."
